Dan's Island 
Mariner Dan Anderson settled the then secluded and isolated Sand Key in the early 1900s. Sand Key was only accessible by boat. He operated a fishing camp and the beauty of Sand Key became known to the area residents. A causeway was built in the 1920s and thus began the rush to Sand Key during the vacation seasons.
